Hesston men’s soccer started off the season with a 2-1 win Monday, Aug 26 against Tabor College (Hillsboro) reserves. The game was thrilling as it went into overtime and won off of Tanner Anderson’s header coming off of a throw in. Head coach Matthew Gerlach says his team has a lot of potential. He says he’s blessed to have a team that believes in themselves, and more importantly, their teammates. They have each other’s back.

“I am excited and confident they will rise to a level we have not seen at Hesston in a long time,” Gerlach said.
This young team of 15 freshmen is quickly discovering through what it means to be a college athlete, and Gerlach says he’s all about leading by example.

“Through soccer I choose to inspire, mold and create leaders who ultimately will have a positive impact on the world by being a passionate, loving and proactive leader,” says Gerlach.

The Larks won their first 3 home games of the season against Tabor College Reserves (Hillsboro, KS) Aug. 26, Bethany College Reserves (Lindsborg, KS) Aug. 29, and Central Christian College (McPherson, KS) Aug. 31. They play again at home Wednesday against Cloud County Community College (Concordia).
