Although distinguished by region across the country, the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Relief Sale has been around for decades, raising great amounts of money for humanitarian relief around the world. People from all around gather in open fairgrounds to eat mouth-watering food, admire impressive quilt-making that sell for thousands of dollars, shop at local artisan tables for Mennonite specialty items, and simply enjoy the company of brothers and sisters who wish to see the vision of MCC continue to change the world.
After a concert at Whitestone Mennonite Church in Hesston, the Bel Canto Singers made their way out west this Friday morning to commence their Fall 2018 Tour to Colorado. They will be singing in the Rocky Mountain MCC Relief Sale Friday evening in Rocky Ford, making their way on Saturday to Colorado Springs and sing at Beth-El Mennonite Church on Sunday morning.
After hosting a Masterworks Concert in September, Bel Canto held on to the theme of community peace, resulting in their program title, Grant Us Peace. The program consists of a unique selection of songs from all sorts of genres, such as gospel, bluegrass, a South-African chant blend, and more! Surely, there is something for everyone.
As an ongoing tradition for several years now, these mini tours serve a great purpose for times of fellowship among choir members and audiences. Jack Shingler (Fr.) commented, “I’ve always wanted to be a travelling musician, so this is a really neat experience.” Esmi Hernandez (Fr.) added, “I’m really excited to spend time with new friends, and I’ve never been to Colorado, so that will be fun.”
