The Hesston College Larks came off of a strong win against Highland Kansas Community College on Wednesday (25-17, 25-16, 25-22) to head into their weekend tournament.
Freshman Desi Newman was excited about the win.
“The team handled whatever was thrown our way and struck back even harder,” she said.
DSC_0095Leading in the assists category for the Larks, Abby Regier had one of her best games yet while Christy Swartzendruber had 17 kills to lead the Larks to the victory. Also making a hefty contribution, Sam Rihmann had a team high 13 digs.
Before the weekend tournament, the team was 10-5 on the season. The Larks steadily handled Independence College (25-14, 28-26, 25-22) and Tabor College 25-15, 26-24, 25-18, then put away Clarendon College in a five-set nail-biter (25-21, 25-14, 15-25, 23-25, 17-15).
“Clarendon College really started picking at our weak spots when they found them, so we had to change our defense a little bit,” she said. “We knew this weekend was going to be a real challenge for us and we stepped up when it mattered the most,” Newman explained.
